Place Notes
Greater London is a ceremonial county of England that makes up the majority of the London region. It is organised into 33 local government districts—the 32 London boroughs and the City of London (which is located within the region BUT is separate from the county).
In 1889 it was known as The London County Council (LCC).Then the county of Greater London was created in 1965, replacing the administrative counties of Middlesex and London and absorbing parts of Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent and Surrey, but the area was again re-established as the 'London' region in 1994 and Greater London Authority (GLA) in 2000.
