'Bloomsbury' began to be developed in the 17th century under the Earls of Southampton
The Parish of St George's Bloomsbury was hived off from Parish of St Giles early 1700. St Giles was overcrowded and home to the worst slum in London... the Rookery.
Primarily in the 19th century, under the Duke of Bedford, the district was planned and built as an affluent Regency era residential area.
Now falls under London borough of Camden.
