Randwick Asylum for Destitute Children is a place of residence at Randwick, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Place Notes
The Society for the Relief of Destitute Children opened an asylum for children in Ormond House, a mansion on Oxford Street, Paddington, on 4 June 1852. The Asylum held 150 children aged 3 to 10 years who were defined as needy yet had not been admitted to the Orphan Schools.
The Government granted 60 acres at High Cross, Randwick and a bequest of £11000 from the Society's first medical officer meant that a building to accommodate 400 children could be constructed and the Society relocated to the Randwick Asylum for Destitute Children on 28 March 1858.
The Randwick site included a farm where the boys learnt farming skills.
