Albert was born in 1868 in Plumstead, London, England.¹ Albert's father was Edward Jeal and his mother was Maria. His paternal grandparents were James Jeal and Eliza Goodman. He had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Edward, George, Rowland, Minnie and Alice. He was the third oldest of the seven children.
