Neil was born on August 7th, 1928. Neil's father was Hermann (Sydney Herbert) Julius Kapper and his mother was Caroline Louisa Francis Thomas. His paternal grandparents were George Michel Kapper and Emma Lorette Kassulke; his maternal grandparents were Joseph Terret Thomas and Mary Ann Francis. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Donald, Mark, Mike, Stuart, Gloria, Carol and Moya. He was the oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 59 in December 1987.
