Susan's father was Jonas Reed Stone and her mother was Jane Board.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Stone and Betty Reed. She had a brother and four sisters, named John, Mary, Elizabeth, Ann and Sarah.  She was the third youngest of the six children.
