Sarah was born on February 5th, 1826 in Sawston, Cambridgeshire, England and her christening took place on April 6th, 1827 in the Independent Chapel, Sawston, Cambridgeshire, England.^1 2

Sarah's father was Thomas Ellis and her mother was Harriott Stubbings.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Ellis and Charlotte. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Edward, Charlotte, Harriett, Jane, Charlotte and Martha.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
