Lindy was born on May 17th, 1951. Lindy's father is Mervyn Hamblyn and her mother was Gloria Mary Kapper. Her maternal grandparents were Hermann (Sydney Herbert) Julius Kapper and Caroline Louisa Francis Thomas. She has three brothers and four sisters, named Peter, Sydney, Paul, Karen, Cherryl, Madalene and Christine. She is the second youngest of the eight children.
