Edward was born in 1866 in Plumstead, London, England.¹ Edward's father was Edward Jeal and his mother was Maria. His paternal grandparents were James Jeal and Eliza Goodman. He had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Albert, George, Rowland, Minnie and Alice. He was the second oldest of the seven children.
