Edward was born on February 12th, 1892 on Baldhill Farm, Grahams Creek, Maryborough, Queensland, Australia and his baptism took place on March 19th, 1892 in Maryborough, Queensland, Australia conducted by Pastor Copas.1   His godfather was Johannes Beyer and his godmother was Mrs Zoller. Edward's father was Karl Friedrich Staier and his mother was Ernestine Beier.  His paternal grandparents were Konrad Johann Staier and Dorothea Christina Schwarz; his maternal grandparents were August Heinrich Trangott Beier and Johanna Carolina Wittig. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Carl, Friedrich, August, Willie, Friedrich, Franz, Amelia, Bertha, Margaretha, Regina and Anna.  He was the second youngest of the twelve children. He had a half-brother named George.  He died at the age of 85 on October 4th, 1977.2
