Olive's father was Charles Edward Kapper and her mother was Olive Emmitt. Her paternal grandparents were George Michel Kapper and Emma Lorette Kassulke. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Edward, Bernard, Oswald, Florence, Mavis and Dorothy. She was the oldest of the seven children.
