Oliver's father was Horace Read and his mother was Elizabeth (Lizzie) Ann Simms.  His maternal grandparents were David Simms and Mary Ann. He had a sister named Ida.  He was the older of the two children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Sidney, Monty, Winifred and Louise.
