Ann was born about 1839 in Little Bently, Tendring District, Essex, England.1   Ann's father was James Simons and her mother was Amelia Fitch. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Charles, John, George, Arthur, Robert, Morris, Amelia, Charlotte and Jane.  She was the oldest of the ten children.
