George was born about 1831. George's father was Joseph Barker and his mother was Mary Wynham. His paternal grandparents were William Barker and Alice Ruse. He had three brothers and two sisters, named James, Walter, Charles, Sophia and Sarah. He was the second youngest of the six children.
