Sarah was born about 1838. Sarah's father was Joseph Barker and her mother was Mary Wynham. Her paternal grandparents were William Barker and Alice Ruse. She had four brothers and a sister, named James, Walter, Charles, George and Sophia. She was the youngest of the six children.
