William's father was James Jeal and his mother was Eliza Goodman. His paternal grandparents were Mr William Jeal and Mary Smith; his maternal grandparents were James Goodman and Mary Langthorn. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Samuel, Edward, James, Henry, George, Rowland, Charlie, Mary, Elizabeth and Eliza. He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children. He died in 1913.
