Charlotte was born in 1788 in Castle Camps, Cambridgeshire, England and her baptism took place there on April 27th, 1788.1 2  Charlotte's father was William Barker and her mother was Alice Ruse.  Her maternal grandparents were William Ruse and Ann Stubbing. She had seven brothers and a sister, named William, James, Robert, Joseph, Benjamin, John, Stephen and Alice.  She was the third oldest of the nine children. She had a half-brother named John.
