William was born in 1785 in Castle Camps, Cambridgeshire, England and his baptism took place there on June 19th, 1785.1 2  William's father was William Barker and his mother was Alice Ruse.  His maternal grandparents were William Ruse and Ann Stubbing. He had six brothers and two sisters, named James, Robert, Joseph, Benjamin, John, Stephen, Charlotte and Alice.  He was the oldest of the nine children. He had a half-brother named John.  He died before 1851.3
